Seven letters by Jan Patočka to his French friends, written shortly before
and after the publication of Charter 77, at the beginning of
1977. This collection of letters gives insight into Patočka’s personal
views on the meaning of the manifesto and on the circumstances that
preceded and followed its publication. The Czech translation of these
as yet unpublished letters, written in French, is accompanied by notes.
